On Friday, I attended the TKGA’s Summer Knit and Crochet Show in Manchester, NH. I took a class and learned how do to Continental knitting. I had tried to teach myself, from a book, how to do it before but it was much better to actually learn from someone how to do it the correct way.
The major difference between Continental versus American/English knitting is the hand you hold the yarn in:
Here’s the great thing about this (other than being able to knit a lot quicker): I can now, successfully, do fair isle knitting (knitting with different colors). I was trying to find a fair isle pattern I wanted to try; I found something and I already have the yarn for it.
I’m taking a vote:
I originally bought yarn to make his sweater. I saw this sweater at the first knitter’s breakfast I attended and I thought it was the best thing EVER but now I look at it and think, eh:
but I think I might want to make this vest instead:

The colors I have are turquoise for the main color and then lime green, hunter green, navy and white for accent colors.
Comical Continental knitting swatches coming in my next post!

The Negative Knitter
On September 6th, I have the privilege to be maid of honor in my friend, Heather’s, wedding. Upon her request (and a little bit of my suggestion) I am knitting her garter. I looked for several patterns online and settled on the pattern worn by Frecklegirl, of Ravelry, fame:
I’m using a very fine gauge crochet thread which I thought would take forever but I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Knitting has gone relatively quickly and I started early (which is key) so that I can pace myself. Here’s what I have so far:
I know it looks kind of icky so far but, as with almost all knit lace, it will have to be blocked later. In fact, this pattern suggests washing, blocking and then heavily starching so that it holds it’s shape.
Also, rather than green I will use navy ribbon as navy and off-white are the wedding colors.
I have a couple more projects in the works and even a few that were completed over the past few months. Stay tuned…

I’m a horrible blogger-I know. Three months without any posts is unacceptable.
I’ve been working in a lot of projects but I haven’t been taking pictures (until today).
For Lara’s birthday, this past Monday, I made her the tea cozy from Last Minute Knitted Gifts.

I originally intended to make it with a single skein of teal Ultra Alpaca but I ran out of yarn, frogged it and had to start again. Here’s the good thing: I used some yarn I already had (YAY! stash busting) and this yarn is superwash. I ended up having to use twice the amount of yarn, because I double-stranded, but I think the end result is better; it’s a much tighter gauge and I think it will do a better job of insulation.
Here’s some of the top detailing:
Bobble:

I bought the teapot from The Tealeaf in Waltham and I put a gift certificate to the store inside. The store is really cute and not only can you buy tea there but it’s also a tea room.
I’ve been working on more but in the interest of conserving content for future posts, I’ll leave you here.
More to come.

I’m so close to getting my Ravelry invite:
Just 772 people in front of me-I’m hoping for an invite by the end of the week.
UPDATE: Because I am obsessed, I just checked Ravelry again. It is just a little over 4 hours later and the number of people ahead of me is already down to 704. This means that an average of 17 people are invited per hour and that I should hopefully receive my invite in 41.412 hours.
3:30 PM Thursday-HERE I COME!
ANOTHER UPDATE: It’s Thursday at 6PM and here is my status:
Hi everyone-
Due to a family emergency I will be on hiatus from my blog for a while.
On Sunday night, my brother fell from the 3rd floor of his apartment building onto concrete. He was trying to break into his apartment because he was locked out.
He fractured his C4, C5, and C6 vertebrae, broke his cheek bone and had to get 6 staples in his head. He had surgery on Monday-they took out his C5 because it was shattered and pressing his spinal cord and replaced it with one from a cadaver. Then they put in a steel “splint” with 6 screws to stabilize his neck. As of right now he’s paralysed from the shoulders down.
He’s up at Dartmouth-Hanover Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was taken there by helicopter on Sunday night from Dover hospital.
As of right now I’ve been up and back twice. I slept there Sunday and last night. I’m actually at work today because I got into a very minor car accident myself on Friday and I need to get my car fixed but I’ll be going back up either tomorrow night or Friday morning through the rest of the weekend.
My schedule as of right now is completely up in the air but I will return soon-hopefully as the barer of better news.
What a day! I’m back from my meeting in Detroit. What’s my opinion of the Motor City you might ask? Well, I saw a highway (what they call the freeway) and an office park. All I can say is-you know you’re in the midwest when people ask you if you want a pop.
I’m very glad to be home. I woke up at 3:50 this morning and I got back around 7:45 tonight. Now, it’s 10 and I’m not feeling so much tired as sore. My bag was really heavy and I had to keep up with two men speed walking through an airport in heels. My shoulders feel horrible.

I got Cassady’s Red Swap Surprise all ready to go-it’s going in the mail tomorrow!
I’ll show you what’s in it once the package gets to her. I don’t want to ruin the surprise.
My boss is having a baby at the end of September and she already knows it’s a boy. Knowing the sex of a baby, while still in gestation, makes knitting SO much easier! At first, I was thinking I’d make a garment-a sweater or something. Ultimately, I decided to go with a blanket (he’ll out grow it much slower).
Here’s what I decided on:

It’s the Cabled Blanket from Simply Baby by Debbie Bliss. The yarn is Reynolds Revue in Denim. I believe I bought 8 skeins-that’s probably a little too much but we’ll see. (and yes that’s a weeds shot)
Finally, here’s the little bit of progress on my Witterings hat (again, shot in the weeds behind my apartment):

For some reason the brim has been going much slower than the dome-part. I was hoping to have it done by now. Oh well.
I’m off to Martha’s Vineyard for a week tomorrow. So much time and so much knitting! I can’t wait!
First off, let me start by saying, holy crap, it’s hot. It’s 11:30 PM and still 80 degrees outside. Luckily, the cave keeps me pretty cool, but still.
Now onto the good stuff; here are a couple WIP:
Here’s a place mat I’m working on for my mom. I gave her a set for Mother’s day and she wants 2 more. The yarn is Debbie Bliss, Denim Aran.

This the the back of the Nantucket Jacket from Interweave Knits, it’s in Knit Picks Swish Superwash. I can’t wait until I actually have time to finish this.

Here’s some progress on my Witterings hat and the (before the brim) detailing-which is really difficult to see. This is done in Elsbeth Lavold Cable Cotton. Once I get some more progress under my belt, I’ll take a picture in nature light.

(Note in the background, my laptop, playing my new obsession: Friday Night Lights on NBC.Com)
Well-it’s hot but I’m off to bed.
